Angel Falls sits inside Canaima National Park, about 270 km southeast of Ciudad Bolivar, and cannot be reached by road. The usual route is a light-aircraft flight from Ciudad Bolivar to Canaima — roughly 60 to 75 minutes from Tomas de Heres Airport — followed by a river trip up the Carrao by motorised canoe to the base of the falls, taking one to two days depending on the season. Water flow is highest from June to December. Flights leave early and depend on the weather, so it is worth sleeping in Ciudad Bolivar the night before rather than arriving the same morning.
